The true costs of the Iraq War

Not that it matters much to the people who represent us in DC, but I thought I'd share with you Utah's portion of funding the Iraq War. It's sad to see all three Congressional representatives from Utah voting for the increase in appropriations and the better uses for that money.

This data is taken from the National Priorities Project. I also find it sad that so many Congress-people think funding this unjust and immoral war is a priority.

Utah's portion of the Iraq War: $2.4 billion

Now, let's divide that up by each Congressional District in Utah:
CD1: $803.29 million
Number of children who could have been provided health insurance throughout the entire war in CD1: 87,555
Number of affordable housing units that could have been built in CD1: 5,701
Number of elementary schools that could have been build in CD1: 98

CD2: $812.6 million
Number of children who could have been provided health insurance throughout the entire war in CD2: 88,569
Number of affordable housing units that could have been built in CD2: 5,767
Number of elementary schools that could have been built in CD2: 99

CD3: $830.45 million
Number of children who could have been provided health insurance throughout the entire war in CD3: 90,514
Number of affordable housing units that could have been built in CD3: 5,894
Number of elementary schools that could have been built in CD3: 101

Also, because of the increase in throwing our money away on this war, many social service programs in the state will be drastically cut. The Bush administration recommends that the following cuts from Utah be made for his 2008 budget:

Low-income Energy Assistance Program, $7 million
Head Start, $2 million
Child care and Development Block Grant, $1.2 million
Community Development Block Grant, $6 million
Special Education, $6.3 million
Community Oriented Policing Services, $1.2 million
Clean Water State Revolving Fund, $990,000

I mean really, who needs education for people with disabilities or for children, clean water or community development? Seriously, what a waste of money these projects are.

Excuse me, I'm too pissed now so I'm off to kill unborn children and marry gays (cause that's all us crazy liberals care about).
